EAST AFRICAN CLASSIC SAFARI RALLY 2025 - DAY 02

Car 33 - Glen Edmunds, Joe Autera and John Roberts

Life - and Rallying - Isn’t About Drawing the Cards You Want, Its About Playing the Hand Your Dealt.

For the Glen Edmunds Advanced Driving / Vehicle Dynamics Institute team, yesterday, Day 2 of the East African Safari Classic Rally, was all about pushing hard to make up time.

Having taken a penalty on Day 1 for missing the third stage and having to swap out Co-Drivers, the only thing we had in abundance, besides the dust, was positions above us in the standings.

And pushing hard means putting a strain on the car, the driver/co-driver, and the mechanics. While throughout the day the car needed relatively minor repairs (replacing the center link and the clutch slave cylinder), it held up nearly as well as the driver, co-driver, and the mechanics.

With a limit of just three mechanics working on the car, and tight time constraints for completing any repairs - along with neccesities such as fueling, inspecting brakes, making minor adjustments, etc. - puts the team under constant pressure to get it fone fast, and right.

Add in the heat, and the dust…did I mention the dust?…and every service stop has the potential to easily undue any time gained in the competition stages.

But, yesterday, when all was said and done, our SSS Rallysport prepared Datsun Violet GT, Glen and John, along with the entire team, showed just what their made of, as time was gained, positions made up, and we’re back at it today!
