Glen Edmunds is an accomplished racing driver with two time winner of the world famous Safari Rally being amongst his accolades.

With his wealth of experience, Glen Edmunds was instrumental in assisting World Rally Champions and other racing legends achieve their goals when competing in Africa.

Row 1 - Top Left Photo: Richard Burns

Richard Burns credited Glen Edmund’s local rally experience and expertise for helping him win the his first Safai Rally round of the World Rally Championship in 1998. Glen was “Richard’s eyes” in the chase helicoper and having rallied the routes many times himself could offer practical adivce. Richard went on to win the safari again in 2000 as well as the entire World Rally Championship in 2001. He was also instrumental in Mitsubishi winning the world manufactuerer’s title in 1998 as well as for Peugeout in 2002.

Row 2 - Far Left: Björn Waldegård

Famous Rally Driver with a 40 year career, during which time he won the famous afari Rally four separate times. They met and started working together when Björn first came to compete in the Safari Rally in 1975. They worked together over the years when Björn drove for Ford, Lancia, Porsche, and Merdedes. He and Glen have remained friends.

Row 3: Far Left - Sebastian Ogier & Julien Ingrassia

Sebastian Ogier teamed with his co-driver Julien Ingrassia have the prestigious title of being 8 times World Rally Champions. The second most successful in the World Rally Championship (WRC). Only Sebastian Loeb is ahead of them by winning 9 WRC Championships..

Glen Edmunds had the privilege of being asked to be the Local Rally Expert and Local Team Coordinator for the Toyota Gazoo Racing Team in 2021 when the famous Safari Rally of the WRC calendar returned to Kenya for the first time in 19 years.

Sebastian Ogier and Julien Ingrassia won this amazing event! Very few people win the Safari Rally on their first attempt. Tommi Mäkinen also won on his first Safari. Both times Glen was the local rally expert, making a major contribution to their success.

Row 4 - Far Left - Derek Dauncey

For the past 5 years, Derek has been Ken Block’s Team Manager at Hoonigan Racing.

Derek was also team manager for Mitsubishi RalliArt Europe. Glen and Derek first met In 1996, when they worked together in Kenya helping Tommi Tommi Mäkinen win his first Safari Rally . Refer to write up under Andrew Cowan top row for further information.

Row 5 - Far Left - Lassi Lampi

Lassi is a 6 time European National Rally Champion. Famous for developing WRC cars, everything from Audi Quattros to Mitsubishi Gallants and Lancers, and more recently Toyota Yaris. d

Lassi is also a talent spotter, being responsible for spotting Tomi Makkinon’s racing talent and was a major part of developing his skills as a world champion. Glen and Lassie spent many years working together in helicopters advising several world champions, such as Tommi Mäkinen and Richard Burns during the Safari Rally in Kenya.

Scottish rally legend and founder of Mitsubish Ralliart Europe. Andrew was most famous for being England’s greatest long distance rally driver. Most famous for his wins in the London to Sydney Marathons in 1968 and 1977. He was also 5 time winner of Australia’s Southern Cross Rallies and the world’s longest rally, the 32,000km South American Marathon in 1978.

He was in the top four positions in the Safari rally on four different events. Also finished 2nd in the famous Paris-Dakar Rally in 1985. 

Andrew hired Glen as the team’s local coordinator and local expert during the Safari Rally years of the WRC in Kenya (1996 - 2002). Andrew and the team relied heavily on Glen’s African experience. During his time with Mitsubishi Ralli Art Europe, Glen was in the chase helicopter to give advice to Tommi Mäkinen, Richard Burns, Freddy Loix and Alister McCrae during the Safari Rally events. Andrew also asked Glen to assist the team on several other WRC events such as: Rally Australia, Rally Argentina, Rally Indonesia and Rally Hong Kong-Bejing. They remained close friends until his death in 2019..

World Rally Championship driver with numerous wins including the British Rally Championship. He is the brother of the late Collin McCrae winner of the World Rally Championship (1995). Glen was the Air born driving consultant and spotter in the chase helicopter for both Alistair McCrae and François Delecour during their stint with Mitsubishe RalliArt Europe during the Sarari Rally in 2002.

Glen was thrilled to meet up with these old friends during the Safari Rally in Kenya in June, 2021.

Glen worked on the Lancia Team for Italian rally legends Micky Biasion and his co-driver Tiziano Siviero during the Safari Rally rounds of the WRC Championship in the 1980’s.

Micky and T were two times World Rally Champions. They also won the Safari Rally in 1988 with a Lancia Delta Integrale

All around motor sportsman, rally driver and famous for his drifting gymkhanas which became famous world wide. Ken is a Youtube phenomenon. His videos have been watched 178 million times and counting!

In February, 2021, Ken entered the East African Safari Classic Rally in a Porsche 911SC. This was his first time entering the event. During the 9 day rally, that covered over 5,000km, he and Glen Edmunds got to know each other and shared their experiences and passion for motorsport.

Row 1 - Top Right: Tommi Mäkinen

Tommi is one of the most successful Word Rally Champion (WRC) drivers of all time with 4 time world rally champion as one of his many accolades. 

In 2018, Tommi became the first person in the history to win a Championship as both a driver and as a team principal (Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT).

Glen and Tommi first worked together during the 1996 Safari Rally when Tommi won the event with Mitsubishi Ralli Art Europe. The relationship continuted for the next 6 years as Glen continued to work with the team in each WRC Safari Rally Event.


Row 2 - Far Right: Vic Preston, Junior

Kenya rally legend who was a factory drivers for international teams such as Ford, Lancia, Audi, Porsche and Nissan and dominated the local rally scene between the years 1975 and 1990.

Glen and “Junior” grew up together as brothers. Glen was one of Junior’s rally mechanics during the years 1977 - 1991 when Junior competed in the WRC rounds of the Safari Rally. During Junior’s stint at Nissan, Glen was given the position of “chase car driver.”

When Junior retired from the rally circuit he became one of the advanced driving instructors at Glen Edmunds Advanced Driving.

Row 4 - Far Right: Kenjiro Shinozuka & Tetsuo Shoji

Kenjiru won the Rallye Cote d’Ivoire Bandama
 in 1991 and 1992, making him the first Japanese driver to win a WRC event. He also placed second overall in the famous Safari Rally in both 1994 and 1995.  Kenjiro was also a fierce competitor in the Paris-Dakar Rally and was the first Japanese driver to win the famous Paris-Dakar Rally (1997). Tetsuo Shoji, Kenjiro’s mechanic was a legendary Japanese mechanic that was part of Kenjiro’s successes.

Glen was hired as the local rally expert during their years competing in the Safari Rally in Kenya.
