Basic Mechanics Tip
Brake Pads. The braking system does a lot of work and the brake pads take the brunt of the punishment. It is a good idea to have your brake pads checked every six months or when you suspect a problem. Problematic symptoms include squeaking, grinding, or increased stopping distance. The brake pedal gets increasingly soft as well.
Driving Tips
Look Far Ahead! Most drivers only look a few feet in front of their bonnet. It's crucial to scan far ahead in the distance in case early braking or evasive action is needed. It can also help you avoid potential security risks or even traffic jams.

Report from One Of Our Readers
This is just to let you and your readers know that today at about 16:15 pm I was driving on the new murram by-pass road from Langata Road to Ngong Road and about 1-2 miles from the Ngong Road I was attacked by a gang of four with what looked like a gun and with stones and pangas. I pulled up to a near stop went into reverse only to realize that I could not get away and then changed back to low-gear foward and drove forward; being an automatic diesel my car was a bit sluggish and slow to get away but luckily after a couple of broken windows and a near scrape, I escaped!
The lesson I learned was:
1] Do not use the by-pass [I was late for a meeting in Karen and the Langata Road was jammed with traffic and I thought that I would be clever and beat the system] just don't even consider it!

From KK Security:
Caution: Uhuru Highway, and particularly near the roundabouts on Bunyala and Lusaka roads have recorded increased attacks on motorists in the recent days. The gangsters hurl rocks onto the path of an oncoming motorist nd attack if the motorist stops to inspect damage. There have also been incidents where tyres are put strategically on the road, ostensibly to warn motorists of a 'broken down' vehicle ahead. When the motorists slow down, they are attacked. If you are hit by a rock, do not stop. If you think you've hit something, do not stop. Drive on and report to the nearest police station or security company Mobile Response Team. If your vehicle breaks down along these areas or on deserted roads, leave it and seek help from a safe place.
